I was thrilled to read this morning that Tyra Banks and her long-term boyfriend, Erik Asla (Norwegian photographer) are the new parents of a baby boy via a surrogate mother!! ARTICLE I was sad for Tyra last year when I read that she so passionately wanted to have children but was unable to conceive. At 41 then, her biological clock was taking its last gasps. She was undergoing the IVF treatments that she described as ‘traumatic.’
Well, this is an example of how money CAN actually buy life. LOL! Women with her resources can pay another woman to carry their fertilized egg. But hey, being a surrogate mom has become a lucrative new profession for some women. This is a win-win situation. This is a profession that even some older women can engage in because under the right circumstances, a healthy enough older woman (I’ve read of a few cases of women in their sixties doing this!!) can carry a fertilized egg and birth the child of a younger woman whose body is impaired in some way. I tell ya: A woman’s body is a magnificent creation! LOL!

Thanks RG for the Macy’s AD pic for Calvin Klein fragrance normalizing a bw with a beau from the global village. I wonder which demographic(s) was the target for this ad. I know that all marketing campaigns have a major target group in mind.
Thanks CH for this Youtube VIDEO AD for a sleek FORD SUV. Hmm, I wonder whether this AD was pitched more at men than women? And I wonder whether it was pitched more at the wm demographic. I don’t believe it’s pitched at bw because it shows too many close-up shots of the woman. Instead, most hetero women would want to see LOTS of close-ups of HIM–not her! I’m just saying. LOL
It’s telling that you, a wm, found the video. LOL!
Been a while since I dropped in here. I’ve been so busy creating items for our online store, vending at holiday craft events, writing, making holiday gifts for family members, fulfilling a few store orders, and WELCOMING my newest grandchild!!
Yep! I was in the delivery room [Read more…]
Thanks, Felicia for this NYT MARRIAGE Announcement.
Even though I’m busy these days with other projects, I’m trying to keep up with posting links that you and others send. So, I’m posting this one NOW! Lol
Sorry to all of you who have sent me material that I haven’t posted.
But let us all wish this couple a blissful life together. I’m so happy she has found her ONE!
Apparently, her husband had never gotten the bizarre memo that AA/bw women are somehow “unfit” for marriage and yadda, yadda.
I know that the bulk of normal men have never gotten that memo and those men who have a mind of their own, won’t pay attention to it even if someone shoves it in their face. The bottom line is there is NOTHING more powerful than evolutionary wiring and nature. Bw–be ever thankful for that! Her husband makes this clear in why he wooed her.
He said: “She was young, beautiful and [Read more…]
They look so content to be with each other. It’s great to see people looking like this these days. LOL
Recently received the note below from a reader, who is wrestling with a quite different human experience.
She thinks she has lost at love, but she hasn’t lost anything worth having. It never existed, except in her mind. A delusion. I shudder though at the 5+ years of precious womanly time she invested with this male. Whew! Since I wanted to do a post, I decided to write a response to her note and feature it here as a ‘slice-and-dice,’ of how failure-prone thinking directs lives towards failure, in the hopes that my analysis may be of service to others.
No person deserves to be treated like this. We were born noble, to be treated nobly, with respect, but failure-prone thinking will always invite predatory people and situations into our surroundings and make them comfortable around us.
We should all know that on the securing-a-quality-romantic-relationship front, 5 years of time for a woman is like 15 for a man because the reality is that there’s a shrinking pool of quality men available for women as we age. Blame it on evolutionary wiring and the life cycle, but the fact is that lots of men are surface-oriented, looking for younger women. There are CQLL men for women of all ages, but the reality is that the pool shrinks as we get older. Life is fair to the extent that [Read more…]
UPDATE: Sept. 30, 2015
I initially wrote this post yesterday, but I’ve read on a few other sites where commenters are blaming these unambiguously black women for this club discriminating against them since they allowed their pics to be taken.
SMH–Folks always find a way to blame bw!
The fact is that we live in a time in the West where many people of all groups have slackened standards or none at all. Security is also an issue.
As a result, photos are required in more businesses and workplaces. Let’s not get confused. The problem was NOT that the photos were taken; the problem was the PURPOSE of the photos. They were used to discriminate against those ‘unambiguously black women.’ For those who don’t know the term: An ‘unambiguously black woman’ is a woman whose complexion and/or facial features, [Read more…]
This is a pic from their engagement shoot. She’s AA; he’s Italian.
Thanks, JR–for this link.
Back from vacation, recovering from my granddaughter Ada’s 2nd birthday “affair,” and trying to stay cool here during these dog days of summer. Darren and I have been having fun taking Ada to the pool as much as possible. She has become too heavy for me to carry around much. She’s a baby and doesn’t even want to know she’s too heavy for me. LOL! So it’s great that Darren is always there to carry her when she wants to be carried. He’s a doting granddad and loves carrying her.
Vacation was wonderful. It’s always great to travel, see new sites, and mingle with people who come from a different place geographically and historically. Mostly what I love about traveling is that I get to go to other cultural settings, different language, different ways of doing things. That way, I’m able to absorb new experiences which I can then allow to percolate inside me or become a part of me, that is, if it’s something that will and can enhance and enlarge this human experiences I’m having.
I get all kinds of artistic ideas when I go to other locales, and I always buy a few items while there to continue my growth. The one thing I always include in my purchases is a French mystery novel of some sort. Last year, [Read more…]

And I love what the blogger Chic Brown Brides is doing by showcasing these weddings and focusing on marriage matters.
My 90-year old aunt had a large birthday party last weekend (Memorial Day weekend) down in Tennessee and Darren offered to drive me down to it. So, we went for a long weekend. Darren likes driving long distances; I don’t. But I love to [Read more…]
As most of my readers know, I’m a strong believer in marriage and I’m therefore a marrying-well strategist. Darren and I have been together for 14 years and I was with my ex-husband for over 2 decades. Married. Marriage trumps, as is proven by this recent case of the ex-Clipper owner’s wife “revenge.”
I’m a curator of life-enhancing cultural practices. It goes without saying that marriage has proven to be “the most” or one of the tiptop, life-enhancing cultural and societal, most evolutionarily-progressive practices of all time, and this is why it has always been supported and put on a pedestal by all societies, governments, and cultures–aside from, of late, the black American collective.
Since I’m black-American by ethnicity, I point out once again that the marriage rate among people from my ethnic background is abysmally low. And all I hear is excuse after excuse from blacks for why black Americans aren’t marrying more. For ex., I most often hear the financial excuse, which is that if black Americans had more money or were closer to being on a financial par with whites, they would get married at much higher rates. SMH
This lie, sponsored, constantly spread and overwhelmingly so by black Americans, is usually aimed at black American women to keep them unmarried, unsupported, and quiet, but as sympathetic sex partners for black American men, [Read more…]
Mrs. Harris TED Talking Just great!
For those who’ve wondered where I am and were considerate to write to inquire, I’ve been on vacation. I’ve been happily relaxing, working on my various crafts (like learning how to become proficient on my different knitting machines), and frolicking with my granddaughter–that is, whenever I dared to leave the house during these past frigid months to spend time with her. But finally, the thaw is on, for good, and that really lifts my spirits. I can’t wait to spend more time with her during the upcoming dreamy, warm spring weather. I already pulled out my roller blades and asked Darren to put air in my bike tires. I’ve scoured the internet for a bike for her, but I may have to get her a cart to hook onto my bike since she’s still months away from being 2 years old–and unable to ride a bike.
Darren? Well, he’s been anxious to plant potatoes but the ground is still frozen. So, that couldn’t happen in mid March as it usually does. Other than that, he’s winding down more and more on the number of hours he spends at work. I’m happy that he enjoys his job, but I think he wants to do something else now. We gave up our Philly apartment since we’ were rarely there any more. I haven’t even been to Philly since last July and he was only staying there a couple of nights a week, so it was really not a good use of the money.
Thanks CH for this pic of this young army family.
One thing I will comment on is that new FOX series starring Taraji Henson that’s creating so much hoopla because some critics say that all of the major stereotypical black characters are front and center in it. I haven’t seen it and would never watch it even if I could find the FOX network on my TV. LOL I also read where the show’s black defenders are claiming that black critics should be quiet so that at least black actors can get roles in that show and black viewers can see people who look like them on screen–even when they’re spreading poisonous images of blacks. SMH!
Well! That exactly the exact SAME argument used by some blacks to defend the performers and purveyors of violent, [Read more…]
Taila is African-American; Thomas is Danish.
Thanks Taila, for this pic of you and Thomas. You found your ONE! I’m SO happy for you!
And thanks a bunch for your note! I’ll share a portion of it.
Thank you very much for your website.
My mom bucked the trend when she dated a white guy 6 months after I was born, and married him in 1978. They’re still together, while her 5 older brothers (who married Black women) are divorced. Two of them divorced TWICE.
BTW: I got married when I was 36 and Thomas was 45. So I fall under the small statistic of finding love before I turned 40. My child bearing days ended two years ago with an emergency hysterectomy, but even back when I got married I knew that I didn’t want any children. So as far as the babies go: the younger, the better!
Thanks again, and please keep up the good work with spreading the good words!
